    Temporary pacemaker with cardioversion DefiPace®

DefiPace® is a three-chamber external pacemaker with a low-energy cardioversion function, designed for the safe and effective management of postoperative atrial fibrillation.

DefiPace® represents an innovation in the temporary treatment of atrial fibrillation, combining the functions of bipolar atrial pacing and low-energy synchronized cardioversion in a single device.

This three-chamber (A-A-V) system allows simultaneous stimulation of the left and right atria, improving electrical synchrony and reducing the recurrence of arrhythmic episodes during the postoperative period. Thanks to its cardioversion energy range of 0.5 J to 10 J, it provides safe treatment that minimises the risk of myocardial damage and reduces the need for sedation, compared with conventional external defibrillators.

The use of specialised temporary electrodes ensures stable fixation in the left atrium, allowing precise and effective pacing for up to 7 days after cardiac surgery. Additionally, DefiPace® incorporates P-wave detection and optimal pacing thresholds, offering accurate monitoring and an immediate response to atrial electrical disturbances.

    Features

    Technical features Details
Device type Three-chamber external pacemaker (A-A-V) with built-in low-energy cardioversion function.
Pacing Bipolar atrial (Bi-A): Allows simultaneous stimulation of the left atrium and right atrium.
Pacing chambers Three chambers: Left Atrium (LA), Right Atrium (RA) and Ventricle (V).
Cardioversion energy Low energy: Range from 0.5 J to 10 J.
Cardioversion mode R-wave synchronous cardioversion for safe treatment of atrial fibrillation.
Electrode use Requires two temporary bipolar atrial electrodes and one temporary ventricular electrode.
Duration of use Designed for temporary postoperative use, typically up to 7 days after cardiac surgery.
Pacing thresholds Preliminary studies report atrial pacing thresholds (LA or RA) between 1.9 ± 1.3 V/ms and 5.0 ± 3.3 V/ms.
    Sensing Preliminary studies report P-wave sensing between 0.9 ± 0.6 mV and 1.5 ± 0.7 mV.

    Benefits

    • Electrode innovation: Allows secure placement in the left atrium, essential for bipolar atrial pacing.
    • Superior safety: Low cardioversion energy (<10 J) reduces the risk of myocardial damage.
    • Reduced need for sedation: Compared with conventional defibrillators (200–360 J).
    • Functional integration: Combines pacing and cardioversion in a single external unit.
    • Enhanced postoperative efficacy: Optimises atrial electrical recovery and prevents recurrence of fibrillation.
